Recognition

During his career, Shepard has earned recognition from directors of non profit organizations, private foundations and news media professionals for his work in strategic communications.

Shepard, while reporting for The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), earned The Press Club of Cleveland Excellence in Journalism Award for a series of stories examining the lasting impact of urban uprisings on the 25th anniversary of the 1966 race riots in the Hough community.

Shepard also received the prestigious Children’s Express Journalism Award in 1993 while at The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), for a series of articles examining the growth and impact of national street gangs across the country.

While at The Home News of New Brunswick, NJ, Shepard earned the New Jersey Press Association Award in 1986 for a profile of a young crack dealer seeking to change his life for the better.
